Peekawhoo is a fast-growing, personalized children's gifting brand selling online and in a boutique store. Redefine rebuilt its commerce experience with one team: a custom BigCommerce store and theme, a bespoke monogram personalization feature, SEO and performance tuning against 650+ design guidelines, and a POS integration that unifies inventory and customers across online and in-store.
Summary
Peekawhoo is a fast-growing children's product and personalized-gifting brand that sells both online and through a boutique retail store. Redefine Innovations transformed its e-commerce experience with one in-house team: designing and developing a custom BigCommerce store from in-depth UX research and structured design guidelines, building a custom monogram personalization feature, shipping a fully custom theme with optimized navigation, product categorization and clean HTML/CSS, applying 650+ design guidelines with SEO and analytics for visibility and speed, and integrating a POS system to unify inventory and customer data across online and in-store. The result: a scalable, high-performing platform with annual revenue scaled to approximately $1 million.
Note: the ~$1M revenue and 650+ design guidelines figures are documented from the brief; other metrics and testimonials on this page are illustrative samples pending verification.
The challenge
Peekawhoo was growing fast, but its e-commerce setup was holding the brand back. The experience needed to improve at the same time as sales scaled, and the platform had to do it without adding operational friction behind the scenes.
The existing store limited personalization, the heart of a monogrammed-gifting brand, and it created inefficiencies in how inventory and customer data were managed. With a boutique store as well as the website, data lived in more than one place, and there was limited visibility into how the business was actually performing.
What Peekawhoo needed wasn't a point fix. It needed one connected solution: a commerce experience built for personalization and speed, unified with in-store operations through POS, so the brand could scale on a single, trustworthy view of inventory and customers.
The approach
Experience and engineering ran together: the storefront was designed for personalization and conversion while the platform beneath it was built for clean code, speed and unified online + in-store operations.
In-depth UX research turned into structured design guidelines, a custom theme, and a bespoke monogram feature that makes personalization the easy, delightful default.
A custom BigCommerce build integrated with POS for one inventory and customer view, tuned for performance, and instrumented with SEO and analytics for visibility.
Design & UX · the storefront
UX research became structured design guidelines, a cleaner navigation and a warm, playful theme that puts personalization front and center, built to sell keepsakes, not just list them. (Brand colours and type follow Peekawhoo’s guidelines; one supporting tone is derived. Palette and layout shown are representative of the redesign direction.)
A soft, characterful type system in Nanum Myeongjo and Arbutus Slab, in muted plum and dusty violet on pale mint, so personalization feels like a keepsake, and product pages stay clean and scannable.
Before & after
The same keepsakes, reimagined: from a cluttered store that buried personalization to a warm, playful experience built to delight. (Screenshots are placeholders — drop in the real before/after exports.)

Custom build · the monogram feature
For a brand whose whole promise is "personalized gifts, made simple," the personalization itself had to feel effortless. We built a custom monogram tool directly into the product experience: choose initials, font and thread color, preview it live, then add to cart with the spec carried cleanly into the order and fulfillment workflow.
What the feature does
Development, POS & integrations
The online storefront and the in-store point of sale both feed one commerce engine, so inventory, customers and orders stay in sync across channels and analytics sees the whole business. The system diagram below is an inferred reconstruction for the team to confirm.

SEO & performance
Clean, semantic code and optimized categorization made the store quick and crawlable; SEO strategy and analytics turned that into organic visibility and traffic. (Search preview is illustrative.)

What we optimized
The results
The new BigCommerce ecosystem improved user experience and site performance while streamlining backend operations. The headline outcome is documented; the supporting metrics below are inferred for the team to confirm.
~$1M annual revenue and 650+ design guidelines are documented in the engagement brief. The remaining figures (conversion, organic traffic, inventory accuracy, operational cost) are reasoned estimates placed here as a structure; replace each with the real number from BigCommerce, POS and analytics before this case study is published.
Why it was low-risk
“The monogram feature alone changed how people shop with us. Customers can see their gift before they buy, and it shows in our conversion and how few mistakes we make in production.”
“Connecting our website to the shop floor was the unlock. One view of inventory and customers, online and in-store, and a platform that finally scales with us past $1M.”
