Your Dynamics GP to Business Central migration checklist, delivered before your deadline
Microsoft's mainstream support for Dynamics GP has ended. Every month you stay on Dynamics GP adds licence maintenance cost and integration risk. Business Central replaces every Dynamics GP module in a fixed-price, zero change order migration.
Submit your brief, then a call within 48 hours, then a fixed-price proposal in 3 days, then kickoff within 1 week of sign-off.

Every quarter on Dynamics GP costs more than you realise
"We kept renewing the annual maintenance agreement thinking we had time. Two Dynamics GP upgrade projects later, we had spent more than a Business Central migration would have cost."
Six data categories that migrate from Dynamics GP to Business Central
Every object is mapped, validated, and signed off in writing before it moves. Nothing is assumed. Nothing is lost.
Your account structure, dimensions, and up to seven years of general ledger transaction history move to Business Central. Period balances reconcile to Dynamics GP before cutover is confirmed.
All customer and vendor cards, payment terms, address books, contact records, and credit limits transfer with deduplication review included before the migration sprint.
All open accounts payable invoices, accounts receivable balances, purchase orders, and sales orders move to Business Central. Aged balances reconcile before any user acceptance testing begins.
Item cards, unit of measure conversions, item categories, and costing method assignments (first-in first-out, average, or standard) transfer with current on-hand quantities reconciled to Dynamics GP before go-live.
Bank account setup, payment methods, outstanding checks, and deposits in transit are migrated with a verified opening balance statement that reconciles to your final Dynamics GP bank reconciliation.
Financial Reporter (formerly known as FRx) is not supported in Business Central. All existing report requirements are documented in discovery and rebuilt using Business Central's native report builder or Power BI, included with the engagement.

Four Business Central capabilities Dynamics GP cannot match
Automatic updates. No upgrade projects. Ever.
Business Central updates automatically twice a year at no implementation cost. Dynamics GP's annual maintenance agreement charges you for the privilege of doing your own upgrade project every two to three years.
Financial reports without Financial Reporter workarounds
Business Central embeds Power BI directly in the interface. Your finance team sees live dashboards including income statements, cash flow, and aged balances, without exporting to Excel or running Financial Reporter. Dynamics GP's report builder was discontinued alongside mainstream support.
Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint built in, no connector required
Business Central approvals, purchase orders, and customer records surface directly inside Microsoft Teams and Outlook. Your team works where they already live. Dynamics GP required a separate connector for every Microsoft 365 touchpoint.
Artificial intelligence built in at no extra cost. Dynamics GP has no equivalent.
Business Central includes Microsoft Copilot for finance, sales, and inventory: natural-language queries, automated reconciliation suggestions, and assisted marketing text. Dynamics GP ended mainstream support before artificial intelligence became part of the enterprise resource planning landscape.
From fragmented systems to $90 million annual revenue

The business operated across 30 stores with over one million inventory items, but had no unified visibility across those stores and its backend enterprise resource planning environment. Manual processes dominated reporting, warehouse workflows were fragmented, and the existing system could not support scale beyond a certain revenue threshold.
Revenue scaled from under $14 million to over $90 million annually following the Microsoft Dynamics enterprise resource planning integration, custom Power BI reporting, and headless commerce architecture delivery.
Everything Dynamics GP required a connector for is native to Business Central
Dynamics GP's integration stack relied on third-party middleware for every system connection. Business Central ships with native connectors for the platforms your business already uses.
Dynamics GP versus Business Central: what you are choosing between
This is not a product comparison for undecided buyers. If you are on Dynamics GP, this is the list of capabilities your team is working around every day.

Dynamics GP to Business Central migration: questions answered
Most Dynamics GP to Business Central migrations take 18 to 24 weeks from signed Statement of Work to production go-live. Simpler environments with clean data and fewer integrations can reach go-live in 14 weeks. Complex multi-company or heavily customised Dynamics GP environments typically require 24 to 28 weeks. Your migration assessment call will confirm the number for your specific environment.
All chart of accounts and general ledger history, customer and vendor master records, open transactions including accounts payable and accounts receivable, inventory items with valuation methods, bank account and reconciliation data, and existing report definitions all migrate to Business Central as part of a standard engagement. Every category is mapped, validated, and reconciled before the migration sprint runs.
Business Central Essentials replaces the core Dynamics GP modules including financials, distribution, inventory, purchasing, and basic manufacturing. Business Central Premium adds project management and advanced manufacturing including bill of materials and production orders. Dynamics GP specific add-ons for warehouse management are replaced by Business Central's native advanced warehouse module, included in the Essentials licence.
Financial Reporter (formerly known as FRx) is not supported in Business Central. During discovery, all current report requirements are documented and prioritised. Every report is rebuilt using Business Central's native report builder or Power BI, both of which are included in the engagement. Most standard financial statements and management reports are available as native Business Central layouts on go-live Monday. Custom or non-standard layouts are rebuilt to the same specification.
A standard Dynamics GP migration for 20 to 50 users with moderate data complexity typically ranges from 75,000 to 180,000 United States dollars in partner services fees, excluding Microsoft licensing. Use the implementation cost calculator to build a number specific to your environment. All engagements are delivered under a fixed-price Statement of Work. The number you see in the proposal is the number you pay.
Choosing a Dynamics GP to Business Central migration partner: good fit or not, we will be straight with you
A fixed-price Dynamics GP migration works for some organisations and not others. Here is exactly when we say yes and when we say not yet.
- You are currently running Dynamics GP 2016 or higher with a maintenance plan in good standing
- You have between 10 and 200 Dynamics GP users across finance, distribution, and operations
- A named project sponsor with budget authority is ready to commit to a 22-week timeline
- Key users can commit four to eight hours per week during user acceptance testing
- You want Power BI financial reporting, Microsoft Teams approvals, and Copilot artificial intelligence as part of the same upgrade
- You need a Business Central go-live in fewer than 14 weeks, or production cutover during quarter-end close
- You are looking for time-and-materials staff augmentation rather than a fixed-price Statement of Work
- Your current Dynamics GP environment requires heavy custom code rebuild beyond standard module mapping
- No named internal project sponsor is available, or executive alignment on scope has not been reached
- Your team plans to migrate from Dynamics GP to a non-Microsoft enterprise resource planning system instead of Business Central
Not sure? Tell us your situation and we will be straight with you.
